finlandia paese più innovativo

Finland is among the top 10 most innovative countries in the world.
Collaboration between companies, universities and research institutes creates a thriving entrepreneurial environment and a significant startup scene.

There Finland rose to sixth place in Global Innovation Index 2023, a world leader in innovation infrastructure.
A total of 132 economie have been rated in the Global Innovation Index (GII), with Finland moving up three places in last year's ranking.
The GII uses 80 indicators to monitor global innovation trends. Recognizing innovation as key to economic development, the index groups it into seven pillars that measure the factors that facilitate innovation and actual innovation outcomes.

Among the main pillars, Finland was found to be:

  • first in infrastructure
  • third in institutions
  • fourth in business sophistication
  • fifth in both knowledge and technological achievements, as well as in human capital and research.

If we look at specific indices, the Finland's strengths are in start-up and scale-up finance, ICT services exports as a share of total trade, and patent families per billion US dollars in terms of purchasing power parity-adjusted GDP, in each of which it ranked first globally.

The GII is issued by the WIPO, a specialized agency of the United Nations. This year saw significant gains worldwide in the growth of scientific publications, research and development, and the number of venture capital deals and patents. The top five innovative economies this year are Switzerland, Sweden, the United States, the United Kingdom, and Singapore.

Last year Finland was Ranked second in the 2022 European Innovation Scoreboard, obtaining the status of innovation leader.

With its reputation as an innovation hub, Finland offers numerous opportunities for professionals who want to make the world a better and smarter place.

But innovation has always characterized this Scandinavian country: in the 1940s, the Finns built the first working flight recorder, later called the “black box”; in the 1970s they invented the heart rate monitor; and just a few years ago, Finland was the first country to implement a 5G network.

Today the country continues to support bold concepts and ideas.
There innovation policy recently introduced by Finland encourages companies to invest in projects that have a positive impact on society as a whole through aspects such as research funding, environmental legislation and policies or collaborative networks and platforms.

As Solmeri we are proud to work with companies that have a long history and expertise in its sector. All the companies we represent invest in Research & Development and have long placed ecological and social issues at the centre.

Investing in the future

Finland's world-class education system (an innovation in itself) is the foundation of the country's cutting-edge research and innovation.
With affordable daycare and free education for children from kindergarten to university, Finns are not only highly educated but also tech-savvy, forward-thinking, and well-equipped to make positive social contributions.

Much of this is due to the country's system of fiscal redistribution.

Supporting the environment

Finns are environmentally conscious and progressive, and Finland is a world leader in the fight against climate change, all while generating economic growth and employment. Currently, the country is testing new solutions in the field of renewable energy, wood-based bioplastics, nutrient recycling and more.

Furthermore, the Finnish climate change law encourages companies to invest in clean products and solutions and strengthens Finland's role in the circular economy.

With regard to Halton, the group has long been investing in solutions where energy efficiency and sustainability are central.
A striking example is the solution MARVEL where thanks to it, Halton hoods in professional kitchens consume only according to need, without waste, saving up to 64% of extraction air compared to traditional hoods.
The company aims to have zero emissions and publishes environmental declarations on its products to understand their ecological footprint (as for REX RE 6 cold beams).
Halton has been publishing since 2020 sustainability report and talks in depth about the activities carried out for sustainability in a transparent manner

Finally, the government of Prime Minister Sanna Marin aims to make the Finland to be carbon neutral by 2035, laying the groundwork for the country to become the first in the world to go carbon-negative.
